This city is a forest tonight
Dear friends,
Forest City Lovers are playing their final show tonight at the Great Hall in Toronto. From what we’ve heard they’re pulling out all the stops and working hard to make it an amazing show and a lasting memory for those fine folks who have been with them all their long way home. And as much as it is a great ending, it’s numerous wonderful beginnings as well. We wish them all the best in their lives and art.
I’m also very excited to hear Lisa Bozikovic play tonight. She’ll be playing a number of songs from her new album, which will be released later this year. Her music is a wonder, and she’s bringing a fantastic band to send it out to us with love and precision.
Here in our camp, we’ve gathered a splendid ensemble in the past long and short while, and I’ll never have enough praise for the people who make up Kite Hill.
It’s a true pleasure to perform alongside our violinist Mika Posen and drummer Steve Lappano, with whom I’ve been playing music in one project or another for nearly ten years. And as our long-time cellist Anissa Hart was called away to the mountains for a time, our friend Stefan Banjevic from The Wilderness of Manitoba has been filling her tennis shoes in fine form, adding a wash of new textures to our songs. We’re also without our good friend Dennis Van Dine for this show, but fortunately my neighbour and multi-instrumentalist Jeff LaRochelle is setting his woodwinds to work for us. And finally, New Toronto producer and player of all things, Nick Grottick will be helping us out with percussion. Good guys all, and we’re happy to be in this with them.
If you don’t already have tickets for tonight’s show, you can find them at Soundscapes and Rotate This, and online here. They are $12 advance, and you can also purchase them at door.
Doors open at 8pm and music begins promptly at 9pm.
It’s going to be a great, great night and we hope to see you there.
Ryan
We’re playing a show with the Fearless Kat Burns and her Forest City on April 19th at The Great Hall in Toronto! Our friend Lisa Bozikovic will be striking the first chords. Runners, all.
Hello everyone!
Today is the first day of The BLOT. Now begins ten months of creative exploration through art and music.
The first installment of our project features the songwriting of Casey Mecija and Ryan Carley (of the bands Ohbijou and Kite Hill), who are also curating the collection. The illustration is by Jake Pauls ( www.jakepauls.com), who was there when the idea for this project first came into being.
You can listen to “The Blot Begins” at our bandcamp page, which can be found at www.theblot.bandcamp.com.
Stay tuned to this page for updates throughout March as we head toward an amazing next chapter.
Safe travels.
A fun piece for Toronto Draws Tintin, an art show and fundraiser that is put on by the awesome Beguiling comic store. All the artwork will be auctioned for a good cause.
Whoa!!
